How would you like Tracting?

We have had such a colorful week that I thought you would like to hear what it is like tracting in Mescalero.

We began our day trying to visit a few members, but none of them were home. So we decided to find some new investigators. The first three houses would not answer the door or were not home. We finally found a lady out in her yard, so we approached her and tried to be friendly. She asked us "What do you want?" So we told her we were missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Immediately she got very angry and told us that she was Catholic and she didn't believe we should be on her property and she had a right to believe the way she wanted. We told her that was ok. We didn't want to make any changes in her life, we were just telling people about the gospel of Jesus Christ. She said she thought it would be better if we left. So we did.
Then we knocked on a door and an older woman (69) came to the door. She told us that it wouldn't do any good to talk to her because God did not love her anymore. We tried to find out what had happend in her life and she kept saying she was disappointed in the Lord because he never answered any of her prayers. We found out that her son had been brutally drug by a rope behind a vehicle by his classmates. She was very angry because the other kids belonged to important people on the reservation. He actually died of a Skateboard accident and hit his head so badly that it damaged his brain and he died. She is trying to raise the little boy.

Then we knocked on another door and the lady was mad at us as soon as she saw our name tags. We asked her what her name was and she answered, "I am Catholic"
At another house we walked by two bulldogs to the door in safety, only to find out they were not home and the dogs became irritated that we were there. I got to the car ok but Dad had to handle a dog that tried to bite him.
So we left that area and went to the Pounce home. The man had already told us he was not interested, but we spoke with his wife and she was very interested and asked us to come back. We had a great time visiting with her children and they said they wanted to come to Primary so we were real excited. When we returned the father came out and he was MAD. He said he couldn't believe we had the nerve to come back to his door step. We tried to calm him down by saying what beautiful kids he had and how interested they were and he told us that his kids got in trouble for talking to us. He was asking us to leave his property. Don't ask me why but we walked to the next door. I was worried that he might come out and yell at us again. But no one was home so we started for the car. Then a great big dog came running through the yard. I began to panic and wanted to run. The spirit told me "Don't run Cheryl, just walk slowly to the car and Dad will take care of the dog." So I did just that. I was never so happy to get into the car and I looked up to see Dad right behind me with the dog jumping and grabbing at him. He got in the car and the dog tried to jump at the car. I think out guardian angels were helping us and protecting us.

That is what it is like tracting on the reservation. There are a lot of Catholics, and a lot of dogs. But the Good Lord protecting us we will be ok.
