For our P-Day, we decided to take a hike to the Rio Bonito River. They said there were some petroglyphs so we drove up the top of the mountain and hike down into a large canyon. It was beautiful! After hiking over an hour we began to realize the time and the fact we had to get back up!!!!! I walked through a fence and through brush to see if I could at least see the river, but all I found was a dried up river bed. So we began our long hard hike back up the hill. That was hard! We stopped many times. THEN it started to cloud up. Out here the clouds form very quickly and it pours rain. We began to get worried. But before we got to the car it was thundering and lightening and we thought the lightening was going to strike us down. We tried to stand under a tree, but the rain just came down on us anyway. I finally told dad, I'm going to keep gong because I think we're close. I still remember our trip out to Jeff's wedding and on the way home we stopped in a canyon because we couldn't drive any further, only to find out in the morning we were only 1/2 hour away. So we kept walking with the rain pouring on us and the wind and thunder was scarry. I have never been so happy to see our car and find shelter. But we laughed all the way thinking how crazy we were. BUT, we never got to the bottom or see the petroglyphs. Next time we will have to start earlier and pray for no rain.
