Rainy Day in Mescalero
What a day! We woke up to pouring rain and it rained and rained and rained all morning long. And I mean poured. Water was running down the apartment streets and gathering at the bottom trying to get out. Dad and I decided it didn't matter we would still go tracting and hope the rain would stop. We drove to Mescalero in the rain and knocked on one house. No one answered! We drove further up the road and knocked on that door. No one answered! Finally we reached to top of the hill where there were two houses. We grabbed our umbrellas and started for the nearest door. It began to POUR and downfall of rain. Here we sat, little old granddie and little old grandpa standing on this porch with the rain falling all over us and dripping rain falling off our umbrellas. We knocked on the door. No one answered. As we slipped and slid through the mud toward our car a lady came out the house just beneath her and said. "What do you want? Dad said, we were missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." She yelled "WHAT? He said, "We are missionaries from the Mormon Church." She just turned around and shut the door. So we decided to go home. The funny thing about that incident is that on Sunday President Morgan asked us if we had gone to a certain house down by the travel center (that is where we were at that time). One of the preachers from another church saw our silver car and noticed we had been driving all over the reservation. He asked President Morgan, "Who are these people" and "what are they doing?" Well we found out that almost everyone knows we are the Mormon missionaries driving that silver car. Dad and I laughed all the way down the hill wiping the rain from our faces, exclaiming, "Boy, What we won't do for the church!"
