Cotton Jin Tour

This was a cotton Gin in Tokio Texas. They harvest the cotton from the fields and it is brought to a bin that shoots it into the cotton gin. From there a machine rips the cotton from the seed. The seed (you can see the man holding it in his hand) compensates the farmer a percentage of money from his harvest and the rest is then sold back to the farmers in the spring for a new crop. The fiber then goes through a processing system and cleaned and dried and bailed. At the very end it comes out in a 500 pound bale of cotton ready to be sold on the market. This 500 lbs bale of cotton sells for a dollar a pound this year. In the past it has sold for 55 cents a pound. So you can see the cotton farmers are doing well this year.

the man was real nice and actually gave me some cotton. It looks just like cotton. They take this and spin it into a cotton thread to make our clothes. It is quite the process. My favorite pictures were the cotton fields. They are beautiful!!!! This was a lot of fun for us.
